Executive Director Job Description

Job Summary

The Executive Director (ED) reports to the Board of Directors (BOD.)  The ED will be responsible for the execution of the overall strategic plan and all operations for the Women’s Small Business Accelerator (WSBA), its growth, expansion, and execution of its mission. The ED will develop a deep knowledge of the core programs (The Inspired Entrepreneur, Mentor Match, and Power Circles) and operations. The ED is the face of the organization and must be able to bring awareness of the WSBA through community outreach. The ED is expected to meet all financial goals and accelerate the growth of the organization.

WSBA Mission

The Women’s Small Business Accelerator was formed to help all women business owners, regardless of net worth or education level, achieve their business ownership dreams through empathy, mentoring, and education.  Through our support and educational programs the Women’s Small Business Accelerator will increase the success rate for women micro-business owners, thereby improving the lives of our participants and our economy through business growth and job creation.

Responsibilities

Board Governance  
Works with board in order to fulfill the WSBA Mission.

  • Responsible for leading the WSBA in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the BOD.

  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions.

  • Oversee and support Board Committees and help execute their goals.

Financial Performance and Viability
Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the WSBA, to include submission to the board of a proposed annual budget (in collaboration with the Treasurer) and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

  • Responsible for fiscal management for the organization, operating within the approved budget.

  • Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary with the support of the Fundraising committee.

  • Maintain a strong ongoing relationship with sponsors and donors, including regular stewardship events.

Organizational Mission and Strategy  
Works with board to ensure that mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

  • Responsible for implementation of WSBA Programs (in collaboration with Programming Committee) that carry out the organization’s mission.

  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that the WSBA can successfully fulfill its Mission through partnerships and program participation.

  • Responsible for the enhancement of the WSBAs image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.

Leadership & Management
Oversees and Leads the organization according to the mission of the WSBA.

  • Ensure ongoing excellence in all programs, that includes rigorous evaluation and follow up, with consistent ongoing recruitment.

  • Actively engage and energize the WSBA volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations (Chambers, NAWBO, Co-Working Spaces, etc), and sponsors and donors.

  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong BOD; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board engagement.

  • Ensure effective systems to track effectiveness and measure results (program growth, growth in engagement, impact, etc.), and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure success that can be effectively communicated to the board, donors, and other constituents.

Fundraising & Communications
Collaborate with BOD, committees, volunteers, and Fundraising committee to insure fundraising activities support existing programs and operations of the organization.

  • Foster communication between all parties to promote the fundraising and donor activities to ensure fundraising goals are met or exceeded.

  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand (in conjunction with the Marketing Committee)

  • Implement a strategic networking plan to build relationships, garner new partnerships and collaborative opportunities.

  • Report regularly to the BOD the results of programming and fundraising with an emphasis on ROI.

  • Implement the Social Media Plan, maintain the website, and send out e-blasts on a regular basis.

Qualifications

The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to the Women’s Small Business Accelerator’s mission. The ideal candidate should have proven leadership and fundraising experience, strong relationship management skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with a strong and dynamic BOD.

Specific requirements include:

  • College degree, with at least 3-5 years executive director experience with a track record of effectively leading and scaling an non-profit organization.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience writing strategic plans collaboratively with a BOD.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.

  • Being able to build and manage successful teams

  • Experience creating and managing a budget.

  • Proven track record for meeting fundraising goals.

  • Experience in planning and implementing marketing, social media, and maintaining a website.

  • Project management and event planning experience.

  • Mission-driven, self-starter, and entrepreneurial in nature.

The ideal Executive Director will be mission-drive with proven leadership and fundraising experience, strong relationship management skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with a strong and dynamic Board of Directors.

Full-time salaried position

2 weeks vacation, after first 6 months
